Your khutbah, translated live

While the imam speaks from the minbar, LiveKhutbah translates his Arabic sentence by sentence. People in the hall scan a QR code and read along on their phone.

How it works

How the khutbah reaches people in the prayer hall

  1. 1

The imam clips a wireless mic to his collar

Its receiver plugs into a phone placed near the minbar. The mosque does not need to run cables or use its sound system for this.

  2. 2

The app translates while he speaks

As the imam gives the khutbah in Arabic, the app writes down what he says and translates it one sentence at a time.

  3. 3

People read the translation on their phones

They scan the QR code on the wall or open a link, and there is no app to install. If the mosque wants, it can also show the translation on a TV in the hall.

Quran verses

What happens when the imam quotes the Quran?

The app recognizes the verse and shows an official translation of it, with the surah and verse number. People in the prayer hall can trust what they read for the words of Allah.

Quran · Al-Baqarah 2:255

ٱللَّهُ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلْحَىُّ ٱلْقَيُّومُ

Allah, there is no deity except Him, the Ever‑Living, the Sustainer of all existence.

The balance goes down per minute of speech. Silence is free.

  3. If the balance runs out

The translation keeps going until the khutbah ends.

  4. Members can top up the balance

Anyone, for example a member of the mosque, can add credit to the mosque’s balance as sadaqa.

Questions

What mosques ask us

What does our mosque need?

You need a phone placed near the imam, with an internet connection, and a wireless clip-on mic for the imam to wear. A TV is optional, because people read the translation on their own phones. If you want, you can also show it on a TV or screen in the prayer hall.

Why does the imam wear a wireless mic?

The mic sits on his collar, close to his mouth, so the phone picks up his voice over the sound of the hall. Its receiver plugs into the phone, which means you can leave your sound system as it is.

How do people in the hall see the translation?

They scan a QR code with their phone camera, from a poster at the entrance or from the TV if you have one. You can also send them a link. Nobody has to install an app or make an account.

Which languages can we offer?

The app can translate the khutbah into more than 100 languages.

Can we use it outside the mosque?

We built it for mosques first. It also works at conferences, in Islamic schools and for weekly lessons.
